Communication

The problem is that you're defending yourself against an accusation she wasn't making.

What to do instead

Before defending yourself, check what you heard: 'Are you asking for help with what's left tonight, or do we need to talk about how the work is divided?' Listen to the answer. If the need is immediate, offer something specific: 'I can handle dinner.' Discuss yesterday's contributions separately if they still matter. When you raise a concern, make the request clear: 'I'm overwhelmed. Could you take over bedtime?' gives someone more to work with than 'Must be nice to sit down.' You can disagree with a request after understanding it. You cannot resolve a conversation you're having only in your head.
