Trust
An explanation accounts for the past. Reliability changes what someone can expect next.
What to do instead
Choose one agreement small enough to keep this week. Make it specific: ‘I will pay the bill by Thursday and tell you when it is done.’ If you cannot do it, give an honest update before the deadline rather than waiting to be caught. When addressing an old breach, name what happened, acknowledge its effect, and offer a change you can sustain. Ask what reliable follow-through would look like; do not demand immediate trust as your reward. A week of consistent action tells you more than another impressive speech.
